Art Comes Before is a contemporary photography gallery dedicated to authorial photography, curatorial research, and emerging visual practices. The project was created to provide a space where established and emerging artists can present coherent and structured bodies of work capable of developing a distinctive visual identity through contemporary imagery.
The gallery’s curatorial research primarily focuses on emerging contemporary photography, with particular attention to works in which visual language, artistic research, and authorial identity establish an authentic dialogue with the present. The selection process is based on the quality of the project, the consistency of the artistic research, and the ability of the images to develop a personal and recognisable narrative.
In a context increasingly shaped by the rapid production and consumption of images, Art Comes Before chooses to place artistic research, visual quality, and long-term cultural value at the centre of its vision. The gallery’s interest extends beyond the aesthetic dimension of the image, embracing the strength of the artistic research and the ability of the works to generate new connections with the contemporary landscape.
Editions
Photographic works are produced exclusively as limited editions on museum-grade papers and certified archival materials, with particular attention to fine art print quality and long-term conservation. Printing represents an essential part of the artistic process: not a simple reproduction, but the physical translation of the artist’s vision.
Part of the production process is developed in collaboration with Lory Digital FineArt in Florence, a fine art printing laboratory with which Art Comes Before shares a strong commitment to print quality, material selection, and the final rendering of the image.
Digital Artworks
Art Comes Before also develops a section dedicated to Digital Artworks, expanding its curatorial research towards artists working through contemporary visual tools, processes, and languages beyond traditional photography.
In this field as well, the selection follows the same curatorial direction that defines the project: attention to the quality of the artistic research, consistency of the visual language, and interest in works capable of interpreting the present through personal and contemporary perspectives.
Digital Artworks are produced as physical works in limited edition and collectible fine art editions, maintaining the same attention to print quality, materials, and long-term conservation.
